What is the Strawberry Line?
The spine of the proposed Strawberry line - "Safe Paths For All" network is not actually one old line trackbed, but historically three:-
Clevedon to Yatton (The Bristol and Exeter Railway)
Yatton to Wells (The Cheddar Valley Line)
Wells to Cranmore (The East Somerset Railway)
Plus three other railway spurs off:-
Blagdon (Wrington Vale Light Railway)
Coxley (Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway)
Evercreech Junction (Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway)
Two other non railway spurs make up the "Safe Paths for All" project:-
Wedmore (leading to the Somerset Levels)
Horrington (leading to the Mendip Hills)
The line from Yatton to Cranmore and beyond was locally known as "The Strawberry Line." To complete the "Safe Paths for All" project we now add in Clevedon to Yatton.
The Strawberry Line will be one of the longest railway paths walks in the UK, second only to the North Dorset Trailway which is slowly recovering the trackbed of the old Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway between Templecombe and Poole.
The Strawberry Line will be some 64k or 40 miles in length excluding spurs and as well as conservation will provide a net work of "Safe Paths for All" to cater for many local towns and villages.
It will also provide enough track to ensure at least a weeks worth of holiday, if not more adding in all the historical sites and natural interest.
A major West Country facility. The West Countries biggest tourist attractions.
